Normal volume flow / Working volume flow

Normal volume flow and working volume flow is the volume flow of gases.

Normal volume flow

Unit: Nm3/h, Nm3/min, Nm3/s ...

The normal volume flow refers to the physical normal condition of gas at 1.01325 bar (abs.) und 0 °C. The normal volume flow is named as Norm-m³ (Nm³) also.

Working volume flow

Unit: m3/h, m3/min, m3/s ...

The working volume flow is the effective volume flow of the compressed gas. To compare the working volume flow with other volume flows it's necessary to specify besides the unit the pressure of the compressed gas.

With the formula for ideal gases it's possible to convert normal volume flow and working volume flow:

p1 * V1 / T1 = p2 * V2 / T2

p = Pressure (abs.); T = Temperatur in K; V = Volume flow

This formula is valid for ideal gases only. For real gases it's possible to get differences.
